About Me

I have spent 30 years in program management in a variety of industries across Canada and the USA, the last 14 years in life sciences and transplant diagnostics. I am the second generation of female transplant recipients in my family due to polycystic kidney disease. I received my unrelated living kidney at UC San Diego, California in Nov 

I have spent 30 years in program management in a variety of industries across Canada and the USA, the last 14 years in life sciences and transplant diagnostics. I am the second generation of female transplant recipients in my family due to polycystic kidney disease. I received my unrelated living kidney at UC San Diego, California in Nov 2008 and was fortunate to avoid dialysis.

 My mother endured dialysis for 10 years starting in 1976, before receiving her related living kidney donation in 1986 in Saskatchewan Canada. My mother lived an additional 20 years with her transplant. 

My younger sister tolerated dialysis for 1.5 years before receiving her deceased donor kidney in 2017 also in Canada. Her daughter, my niece has been diagnosed with PKD while her 4 biological children have not yet been tested.

This is personal.

I am a vocal advocate for patients and changing the standard of healthcare based on my own personal transplant experience and my family members.

I specifically speak out about the challenges I and other female recipients navigate because of their immune suppression and medication side effects.

I advocate for home solutions especially for patients who live in remote areas like my family to broaden access to quality care. 

I believe manufactured organs whether it be xeno-transplantation or 3D stem cell printed organs are required  to allow more patient solutions for those in need of an organ transplant.

Lastly and most importantly, innovation stem cell and gene modification therapies are essential in extending the life of transplanted organs.
